Show Up Hard - Staff Training Series - 6 Week Series
($12,000 Average Fee)

Based on the book Show Up Hard, this 6 week training series is an “antidote to burn out” equipping your staff with the knowledge and skills to be an empathetic steward at work.

This training package is customized for each organization (including printed copies of “Show Up Hard” to be read before the training program. Here is the overarching 3-part structure:

1. Customization Phase

  • Meet with organization executive leadership to learn about their goals and concerns, as well as meeting with managers over specific teams and units

  • Customize training program for staff, presenting plan to leadership

  • Begin 6 weeks of workshop trainings with staff

2. Training Series Phase

From there, we move into the 6 week training program*:

  • Training 1 || Introductory Session: In this session, staff will be introduced to the training and the planned sessions. Staff will learn how to focus on their “locus of control,” learning skills such as the skills in how to evaluate the specific ways they invest in their own resilience.

  • Training 2 || Boundary Setting: In this session, your staff will learn the nuanced ability to set and maintain boundaries, re-creating boundaries with their work and patient-clients over time as the staff’s respective needs and ability to show up shift.

  • Training 3 || Crisis Theory: Understanding the arch of a crisis and how planning in advance for how to navigate a crisis equips ourselves at the individual and team level to respond with resilient strategies.

  • Training 4 || Implementing Feedback Loops: Baking the process of giving and receiving feedback into meeting and report structures. Tips for surfacing tensions before serious problems arise and equipping staff across the organizational hierarchy with tools for engaging in active feedback loops.

  • Training 5 || Managing Up & Down: How to deal with the board and the leadership team, or how to deal with your team + your manager.

  • Training 6 || Resource Access: Mapping the resources available for clients and staff supports resiliency in crisis and organizational change management. Using a client-centered mindset, identifying best practices for understanding and accessing resources is a hallmark of a well-equipped team.

*Sessions may change or be adjusted, based on the needs of your staff

3. Evaluation Phase

Following the completion of the training, staff will be surveyed about the experience. This information will be used in a follow-up report submitted to leadership.

“Fast-Tracked Leaders” Coaching Program

Is your organization ready to invest in emerging leaders, focusing your investment on members of historically marginalized groups?

Executive Coaching - Healthcare Leadership

In my work with healthcare staff, I have found that issues with burnout often stem from executive management and leadership.

I work 1:1 with a select number of executive leaders, helping them to gain skills around:

  • Fostering Belonging: How to make changes (micro and macro) to foster belonging at work, on every level within the organization. Additionally, how to manage the process of creating that change (roadmap, timeline, etc).

  • Change Management: When implementing anti-racist changes to an organization, it’s easy to speak about inclusion – and difficult to change operations and processes to actively deal with racist and sexist structures. In these sessions, I work with clients to manage themselves during organizational antiracism work.

  • Launching Feedback Loops: How to create systems of communication and reporting in your organization that provide multiple pathways (loops) for our employees to flag issues or concerns.

  • Intersectionality: How to foster spaces of inclusivity and change for your team. This includes how to apologize when issues around racism, sexism, homophobia, etc, arise.

  • Mentoring on Mentorship: How to model leadership for those who report to you, and how to teach leadership and advanced management skills to your mentees and direct reports.

TESTIMONTIALS

“Shannon’s Show Up Hard framework has transformed how I interact with my family, friends, and co-workers on a daily basis. Her concepts help me navigate complex human interactions and intentionally design how I show up as a Compassionate Witness.

She’s taught me the value of setting necessary boundaries so that I can fully support others in a sustainable way. Because of Shannon’s work, I’m more effective, resilient, and openhearted as a leader and, more importantly, as a human being.”

— Ian Scott, Director of Product Strategy, Start With Why

“Shannon’s training hit me like a bolt of lightning. She helped me see how creating safe spaces for others, and clear boundaries, didn’t diminish my caring or generosity. Instead, it allowed it to bloom and flourish. It was a huge revelation.”

— Mark Dyck, Chief Community Advocate, The Right Company

“Life’s unexpected twists and turns never miss an address. Dealing with difficult conversations and circumstances can make or break the best projects or intentions. And the best leaders know that having the tools to navigate and support their teams through tough situations is one of the powerful ways that they can be of service to those that they lead and the work they do.

Shannon’s incredible framework from this book has become a fundamental pillar in the way we approach our work at Seth Godin’s altMBA. She transformed the way that we’ve been able to engage with people, build relationships, scale our company, and troubleshoot even the most challenging problems.

Her approach is simple, yet brilliant—a life skill, one that belongs in the tool kit of any leader looking to make a difference in the lives of others.”

— Kelli Wood, Provost, Seth Godin’s altMBA
